Kenneth B. Kirby
Founder & Managing Director
Ken is the founder of LRI and the LRI Institutional Review Board. He has been actively involved in pharmaceutical R&D for over 30 years and served or serves on Ethics Committees overseeing medical researchat Florida Atlantic University, The Scripps Florida Research Institute, The Max Planck Florida Institute (Chair) and the Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Sylvia Gografe, DVM, Ph.D.
Founding Member
Sylvia is Assistant Vice President for Research, Comparative Medicine | Research Associate Professor At Florida Atlantic University. Dr. Gografe has more than 25 years of experience in veterinary medicine and animal research having held academic and administrative appointments with Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Vanderbilt University, Bay Pines Veterans Administration and the University of South Florida. She is licensed to practice in Florida, Oklahoma and the European Union. Dr. Gografe achieved specialty board certification as a Diplomate with the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) in 2005. She maintains an active interest in collaborative research, has multiple publications and presentations promoting laboratory animal medicine.
David Herman
Member
David has served as a Vice President of Research for both Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as well as the University of Miami MIller School where he served on both institutions' IRBs. He served on the Research Ethics Oversight Committee at the Max Planck Florida Institute. He is currently employed in financial services with Aegis Capital.
Carl -Yves Durand, DMD
Member
Carl is a practicing Restorative, Comprehensive and Cosmetic Dentist. He is a graduate of Rutgers University School of Medicine and Dentistry and is licensed in New York, Connecticutt and Florida. He has a research interest in medical and dental outcomes of chronic disease conditions and drug delivery systems.
William D. Kirsh, D.O., M.P.H.
Member, Medical Liaison
Bill is a practicing physician of over 30 year experience, specializing in emergency medicine and hospice care. Dr. Kirsh, a published author and member of several medical boards, holds degrees from Florida State University, Nova-Southeastern University and The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene & Public Health. Dr. Kirsh was residency trained at The Johns Hopkins University and actively practices acute care medicine at various local hospitals. He holds appointments as clinical facility at University of Miami Hospital, Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine and in the School of Public Health. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of the Association of Retarded Citizens of South Florida and is a founding member and Executive Vice President of International Health Initiatives a "not for profit" organization with a focus of using technology to bring health care to underserved populations. Dr. Kirsh is also a voluntary physician in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and has ocean navigated over 18,000 KM around the Americas. Bill serves on the State of Florida's Medical Licensing Committee. He is Board Certified in Geriatrics; Board Certified in Family Medicine;
Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine;
has a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and is on the Medical and Teaching Faculty; University of Miami Hospital.
